Master of Science in Biomedical Informatics
Mission Statement
The Penn MSBMI will train the next generation of biomedical informatics researchers for successful careers in academia, healthcare, government, and industry.
Program Goal
The goal of the program is to provide students with in-depth training in biomedical informatics and research methods, and the experience of developing a substantial research project that culminates in a formal thesis. Graduates of the proposed Master of Science in Biomedical Informatics Research program would be well-trained and equipped with the research skills and knowledge to lead in their field, working on important research questions in clinical, translational, public health, or consumer health informatics
Student Population
The ideal student will be a clinician or have prior doctoral-level training in a field related to health sciences, such as epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, health policy, computational biology, or genetics to name a few. In particular, we hope to attract applicants who have experience in clinical research and /or translational science who are interested in becoming a biomedical informatics researcher and or apply BMI research skills to their existing research programs. A typical applicant will pursue a research-focused academic career, likely on the standing faculty with extramural grant funding.
